Herly Urquia is the owner and manager of Finca Caviflor, a 20-hectare farm located in the Montecillos region of Honduras. Of this, 18 hectares are dedicated to coffee cultivation, while the remaining land is planted with a variety of fruits, including oranges, bananas, and strawberries.
On his farm, Herly oversees approximately 38,000 healthy coffee trees, predominantly of the Catuai and IHCAFE 90 varieties.
Finca Caviflor is particularly well-known for its rich biodiversity, especially the abundant presence of wild birds, with hummingbirds frequently seen flitting around the coffee plants and surrounding fruit crops. Currently, Herly is in the process of constructing new fermentation tanks as part of his ongoing efforts to experiment with and refine various processing methods.
The Montecillos region is renowned for its dramatic topography and stunning landscapes. The area’s varying altitudes, combined with the cool evenings brought on by the steep terrain, create ideal conditions for coffee production. Located near the border with El Salvador in the southwest corner of Honduras, the region is a perfect setting for high-quality coffee cultivation.
While this particular offering cannot be attributed to a single variety, it is likely a blend of the most commonly grown varieties in the region, including Bourbon, Catuai, Caturra, IHCAFE 90, and Lempira.
