The Red & Yellow Caturra from El Vergel Estate stands out as one of their flagship coffees, cultivated in a microlot adjacent to the washing station and surrounded by Guava trees. This coffee is renowned for its intense, fruity profile, reflecting the estate's innovative spirit. The Caturra plants, established between 2016 and 2018 with over 40,000 plants, have proven ideal for experimenting with larger processing batches.

The Bayter Family embarked on their agricultural journey at El Vergel Farm in 1995, initially focusing on avocado cultivation. However, a downturn in avocado prices in 2006 prompted them to diversify. They introduced coffee varieties, including Catimore and Red and Yellow Caturra, paving the way for their coffee venture. By 2016, with expert guidance from coffee specialist Miguel Jimenez, they began planting specialty coffee varieties, setting the stage for exceptional coffee production. In 2018, they adopted natural processing techniques and refined fermentation control, including the innovative Koji fermentation process, which revolutionized their green coffee production.

Today, Martha Montenegro, along with her skilled partners Elias and Shady, leads the charge at El Vergel Estate. Together, they blend technological innovation with a deep passion for coffee, enhancing not just their coffee but the community around them. Their mission is to infuse their craft with joy and create a vibrant coffee culture at El Vergel Estate.
